Secondary School “ Nikolay Katranov”, Svishtov, Bulgaria
Svishtov town is situated on the middle of the biggest European river Danube. It’s one of the most famous and interesting Bulgarian towns with about 30 000 inhabitants. In the territory of Svishtov there are presently 120 official archaeological, art, and architectural monuments of culture of local, national and international significance. Aleko Konstantinov, the most popular Bulgarian writer-satirist was born here and his book “Bai Ganio” was translated into over 40 languages.
The school “Nikolai Katranov” is situated in the centre of the town with 7776 students at the age from 6 to 18 in it. In first level from nursery to 4-th grade there are 325 pupils. They study the English and German languages. Our school is the only one with English classes in the town.
Like in many Bulgarian families, the children’s parents are workers abroad and the students live with their grandparents.
Some of the school’s pupils come from families with financial problems (pupils having only one parent, with parents who work abroad).
Our objectives are:
• to put the English study in real communicative surroundings.
• through gamesto increase the pupils’ and the teachers’ motivation towards communicating in other European languages
• to promote the cross-curricular dimension in education.
• to promote innovation and initiative, interaction and involvement, internationalization and intercultural understanding in education.
• to develop the European dimension in teaching
We expect the following outcomes:
• through games to modernize and diversified the teaching activities ;
• to increase or to make lessons more attractive
• to enrich the teachers’ and the pupils’ linguistic and cultural experience ;
• to incorporate ICT effectively into the learning process
• to make school more appealing through presenting the results of the project to the neighboring secondary schools to parents
• to become a part of the EU educational community ;
In Bulgaria we have a wonderful traditional games. This project will help us get our children to rediscover them and play with us their teachers and parents. Will teach them and children from partner schools and we want to play their games. Through games, we will learn to speak and understand each other better.Let's play and become friends because we are together in the family of European nations.
Let's play!
